On December 8 Ria Mona Lisa gave us her first colt, The Cisco Kid and what an amazing colt he was, the type that all breeders strive to breed. Fabulous markings, well put together and the feather was unreal and he had real promise of being a special horse. 36 days later he gone by a tragic accident that to this day I still replay in my minds eye. However, I knew that one day Beau and Ria would produce another one just like him and along came Brightwater Blue Moon. The day he was born was a cold, wet, miserable day and he looked awful. Wet and unscrunched I checked him over and posted a photo of his 2 beautiful blue eyes while waiting for better weather to unveil him fully. Well the weather came right and what I saw just took me back and knew in my heart that Blue Moon was the reincarnation of The Cisco Kid. I was wrapped and so was everyone else who saw him and the feather was unreal again. Finally they have done it again after a long 7 year wait! I couldn't stop taking pictures of him everyday and on the 10th day I went to check him again. I took some lovely shots of him lying down in the grass and was about to leave when he jumped up and I noticed out of the corner of my eye something was amiss. It did not take me long to work out that he had broke his leg! My heart sunk and thought how unfair this was to loose another one in a tragic accident.
We rushed him off to the best vets in the country and discovered he had broken his rear leg and subluxated his ligament as well, for an injury that was recommended by all the attending vets to be put down. In their words he would never make it, nor recover from his injuries. I couldn't give up on him and after a long battle to get him out of there, as they were going to evoke the animal welfare act on me and put him down, I transferred him to another vet in Hamilton that was prepared to give me the chance I needed to heal him. A week later I brought him home and began all natural medicine to rehabilitate him. All pharmaceutical drugs were stopped and replaced with alternative medicine and in particular large doses of Vitamin C. Well, long story short, Brightwater Blue Moon proved them all wrong and every day he was full of beans and showing that he was a fighter. Within a week he was running and mounting with mom, even though I would cringe to watch him do so. Trying to restrain him was impossible so I just let faith do its job, but he never showed any signs of limping, ever. Two months on with many cast changes every 2 weeks, he completely recovered and our vet has given him a 200% A OK! What could be better than that. His owner is wrapped and hats off to her and her family that never waivered in their faith for him to make a full recovery! He is beautifully marked with a long lopey stride, hair to spare and will be cherished forever in the McClean's family. Watch out for this boy in the future as he will mature to about 14.3 and will train in dressage as well as be a pleasure horse. To add the icing on top of the cake, he has masses of feather already on his legs so Brightwater Blue Moon will be an impressive boy!
